Brilliant album that blends soulful melodies with complex rhythms. While Louis Smith was a key figure in the development of hard bop, he never fully pursued a career as a bandleader. Despite his notable collaborations with jazz greats, Smith recorded very few albums under his own name. As a result, his work as a bandleader, particularly on Smithville, remains a special and rare part of his legacy. Record plays VG+ , with a few short tics on A1.
